Accidents are so unexpected, and they can cause so much pain and worry in a person’s life. All you wanted to do was get to work, run an errand, or take a nice drive and someone else caused you harm you didn’t see coming. Even if the accident in which you were in was a minor one, you might still have some injuries you need to have checked out and that usually isn’t cheap. So how do you pay for this?
Don’t Skip Medical Attention
Even if you are worried about paying for your medical treatment, don’t let this stop you from going to your doctor. In order to get compensation for your injuries, you need to have a record of your injuries and proof that they were caused by the accident. Your doctor will be able to examine you and provide that proof. Don’t worry about the cost at that point, since you will have a little time to figure everything out before the bill comes due.
Use Your Health Insurance
If you have health insurance, use it when you get to the doctor or hospital. It’s what it was meant for. Pay your copay and keep the receipts and any bills that you are given. If you are able to prove your claim at a later date, you can be reimbursed for any costs that you can prove came from the accident.
Call Your Insurance Company
Ideally, when you are hit by someone else, their insurance will pay for everything, including your medical bills. But what happens if they don’t have any insurance of their own or the accident is a hit-and-run? This is where your insurance steps in. Depending on your policy, they may just reimburse you for everything, or they may ask you to file an uninsured motorist claim. Your insurance company will also help you identify the motorist so that the motorist’s insurance company can pay for things properly.
File a Lawsuit
If it comes down to it, you can always file a personal injury lawsuit against the person who caused the accident. This gives you the chance to receive the money you need to cover the cost of your medical bills. This is why you need to keep the records from your doctor. Without proof that you were hurt in the accident, you don’t have a case.
It’s never fun to deal with medical expenses, and it’s even worse when it comes from an accident. Don’t let it overwhelm you and don’t let it prevent you from getting the treatment that you need. You shouldn’t have to suffer because of someone else’s mistakes.
